Every civilization in history has operated with a sense of "ought." We recognize that some actions are truly good and others are truly evil.
Across every culture and time, humans have a moral compass. We believe injustice is actually wrong, not just socially inconvenient. This universal moral law points to the existence of a Moral Lawgiver.
If there is no objective standard outside of ourselves, then morality is just a matter of opinion. But our deep sense of justice suggests otherwise.
"Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness..."
The Bible explains that our moral sense is actually God's law "written on the heart," making us aware of His standards.
If there is a moral law written on our hearts, it suggests we are accountable to the one who wrote it. If this Lawgiver exists, has He communicated with us more directly? This leads us to the question of revelation.
