OcoC — An online church of Christ congregation
About the church of ChristThe church of Christ was founded by Jesus Christ, who said, “I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). He alone is the builder and the only head of the church (Ephesians 1:22–23; Colossians 1:18). The church does not belong to man, to a denomination, or to any later founder. It belongs to Christ alone. When Jesus said the gates of Hades would not prevail against it, He showed that His church would not be overcome, replaced, or defeated.
The name church of Christ is biblical, showing that the church belongs to Christ (Romans 16:16). The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch (Acts 11:26), in harmony with God’s promise of a new name (Isaiah 62:2). This is not a denomination, but a congregation belonging to Jesus Christ. Scripture shows that when people repent and are baptized for the remission of sins, they receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, and the Lord adds them to the church (Acts 2:38, 41, 47). In the end, Christ will destroy death and deliver the kingdom to the Father (1 Corinthians 15:24–26), and His people will be with the Lord forever.
Jesus said, “I will build My church” (Matthew 16:18). He is the founder, owner, and only head of the church (Ephesians 1:22–23; Colossians 1:18).
